About Kinjo Gakuin University
Kinjo Gakuin University, Japan's leading private women's university, has been growing in tradition since it was originally founded by an American missionary, Mrs. Annie Randolph, in 1889. Kinjo has 13 undergraduate departments and majors covering a wide range of disciplines - from humanities and social science to natural science - and 3 graduate schools.

Exchange Program
Exchange students selected by Kinjo Gakuin University's partner institutions are enrolled at Kinjo for a semester or an academic year. They can take Japanese language courses, Japanese studies courses, and undergraduate courses, and earn academic credits. Kinjo accepts exchange students from partner institutions in China, Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand, France, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States. The Center for International Exchange Programs (CIEP) handles inquiries about the exchange program.

Exchange Program
Courses
Each course is held once a week for 90 minutes, for a total of 15 sessions, and students can earn 1-2 credits per course. Exchange students take 8 or more courses per semester, including both Japanese language courses and undergraduate courses.
Courses for Exchange Students
Japanese Language Courses
These courses are compulsory for all exchange students. Students are divided into three levels based on a placement test.
- Intermediate: 5 courses per week (1 credit each)
- High Intermediate: 3 courses per week (1 credit each)
- Advanced: 2 courses per week (1 credit each)
Japanese Studies A/B (2 credits each)
These courses are for students at the advanced Japanese level.
Japanese Studies C/D (2 credits each)
These courses are compulsory for all exchange students. Students will learn about Japanese culture through hands-on activities such as flower arrangement, Kyogen (traditional comic theater), kimono dressing, Aikido, and Japanese cooking.
Topics in Comparative Culture / Topics in Contemporary Japan (2 credits each)
These courses are taught in English. Students will learn about contemporary Japan from various perspectives, including culture, literature, religion, and social issues, together with Kinjo students.



Undergraduate Courses
Exchange students are free to choose courses regardless of their major. Courses are mainly taught in Japanese. Some courses may have enrollment restrictions.

Tuition
Exchange Students: Tuition is waived based on the student exchange agreement.
Study Abroad Students:
Tuition: 250,000 yen per semester
Examination fee: 3,000 yen
Registration fee: 5,000 yen
This option is available only for students from partner institutions with study abroad agreements.
Scholarships
Kinjo Gakuin University offers scholarships to students from its partner institutions.
- Exchange Students: 100,000 yen per semester
- Study Abroad Students: 75,000 yen per semester
Accommodation
Exchange students from partner institutions will live in the university's international dormitory throughout their stay. The dormitory is within easy walking distance of classes and has security features such as auto-lock doors. Each student has a furnished private room, and 2-3 students share kitchen, dining, bathroom, and toilet facilities. RAs are available to support international students throughout their stay.
Residence fees: 36,000 yen - 39,000 yen per month (depending on room type, including utilities, rental bedding, and WiFi fees).

Kinjo International Girls “KING”: The student organization KING plans various international exchange events throughout the year.
Language Partners: International students are paired with Kinjo students for Japanese language support.

Elementary School Visits: International students have the opportunity to visit local elementary schools and introduce their home country/region’s culture.
Participation in International Exchange Events: International students can participate in local international exchange events and interact with residents.
